  • Straits Times: Feature on Professor Panda's SEOS Technology

    The Straits Times featured Prof Panda’s team work in developing smart socket system for plugged-in devices. In this Tech News item, the innovative Smart Electrical Outlet/Socket (SEOS) technology developed under the SinBerBEST programme was described as having the capability to provide users to remotely switch off appliances or even configure user’s electrical sockets to automatically shut down gadgets that draw too much power.

  • Berkeley Engineering: Researchers Create Tougher, Environmentally-friendly Concrete

    In October 2020, Berkeley Engineering featured a civil and mechanical engineering ingenuity, a stronger concrete with less carbon emission, that was created by SinBerBEST Theme C researchers including Claudia Ostertag, Hayden Taylor, Brian Salazar, Parham Aghdasi, and Ian Williams. The research team utilized a 3D printer to create polymer-based octet lattices, and then poured ultra-high performance concrete, which is four times sturdier than traditional concrete in compaction, into the lattices.

The SinBerBEST Annual Symposium took place at CREATE Tower in Singapore on Monday, August 5, 2019. The theme of this Symposium was: People, buildings and data – shaping a sustainable future. During this meeting, keynote lectures were presented from external speakers and SinBerBEST principal investigators, Energy Market Authority leadership and presenters from post-doctoral scholars.

Ming Jin and Ruoxi Jia, former Graduate Student Researchers at UC Berkeley who met through the SinBerBEST program, just welcomed their son, Walter Jin, to the world.

He is wearing a SinBerBEST onesie, a gift from the SinBerBEST team at UC Berkeley.

Smart Electrical Outlet/Socket (SEOS) US Provisional Patent Application No. 62/626,175 underwent Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) filing on 04.Feb.2019 as PCT/SG2019/050066. The patent application describes a plug-load management solution consisting of smart electrical outlet/socket devices and related systems/services proposed and implemented by SinBerBEST researchers. The inventors are Dr. Krishnanand K. R., Dr. Hoang Duc Chinh, Manish Gupta, A/Prof. Sanjib Kumar Panda and Prof. Costas Spanos.

IEEE International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technologies and Systems (ICSETS) is a new international conference which is planned to bring together professionals and executives in the energy sector, electrical power companies, manufacturing industries, research institutes and educational bodies to share and exchange ideas and information pertaining to sustainable energy technologies. The team POWER@NUS, comprising of PhD students (Jaydeep Saha, Rohit Chandra, Sandeep Kolluri, Binita Sen, Palak Jain and Kamala Srinivasa Rao) and researchers (Rajesh Sapkota, Prathamesh, Md Waseem and Santosh Janaki Raman) from Electrical Machines and Drives Lab, ECE department, mentored by Associate Professor S K Panda and Dr. Eddy Blokken (SERIS), participated in the Empower a Billion Lives competition organised by IEEE. The team submitted their proposal online and were selected for the South-Asia regional round at PEDES 2018, IIT Chennai.
